Vacation Summary

This was by far the most enjoyable vacation. The weather was perfect. I took an obscene amount of pictures (the best ones will be on IdeaAttic.com). I visited Nassau, St. Thomas, & St. Maarten, all were great but St. Maarten gave me the best photos. Ok, so here's the best part, while on the cruse I attended an art auction. I bought (drum roll) a Salvador Dali and a Petter Max.

The Dali is a signed lithograph from Destino which was the collaboration of Walt Disney and Dali in the early '40s.

The Peter Max (think Andy Warhol) is an original which I bought with intentions of reselling for a profit. I also bought 5 other artiest but those two are the best of the bunch. I'll be receiving them within 4-6 weeks and will do a huge post on the Dali, Max and the other artiest once I get them.

Below you will find some of the images from the cruise, move can be found in the web gallery (found in the right side bar) and the best ones on IdeaAttic.com and Flickr. Hope you like :)

My Dali finally arrived

I purchased the Dali when I was on vacation in Aug and have been waiting since then. Looks like I'm going to have to get some bigger art to go next to it as it's so damn big.
Destino

Here's the story behind it:

Destino is a short animated cartoon released in 2003 by The Walt Disney Company. Destino is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its original release. The project was a collaboration between American animator Walt Disney and Spanish painter Salvador Dalí, and features music written by Mexican songwriter Armando Dominguez.
Destino was storyboarded by Disney studio artist John Hench and Dalí for eight months in late 1945 and 1946; however, financial concerns caused Disney to cease production. The Walt Disney Company, then Walt Disney Studios, was plagued by many financial woes in the World War II era. Hench compiled a short animation test of about 18 seconds in the hopes of rekindling Disney's interest in the project, but the production was no longer deemed financially viable and put on indefinite hiatus.
In 1999, Walt Disney's nephew Roy Edward Disney, while working on Fantasia 2000, unearthed the dormant project and decided to bring it back to life. Disney Studios France, the company's small Parisian production department, was brought on board to complete the project. The short was produced by Baker Bloodworth and directed by French animator Dominique Monfrey in his first directorial role. A team of approximately 25 animators deciphered Dalí and Hench's cryptic storyboards (with a little help from the journals of Dalí's wife Gala Dalí and guidance from Hench himself), and finished Destino's production. The end result is mostly traditional animation, including Hench's original footage, but it also contains some computer animation.
Destino premiered on June 2, 2003 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, France. The six-minute short follows a female dancer as she dances through surreal scenery inspired by Dalí's paintings. There is little dialogue, but the sound track features a song by the Mexican composer, Armando Dominguez.
The short was very well received; it won many awards and was nominated for a 2003 Academy Award for Animated Short Film.
It was shown as part of the exhibition Dali & Film at Tate Modern from June to September, 2007.
The Disney DVD "True-Life Adventures, Volume 3" has a trailer for Destino and mentions a DVD release. An exact release date has not been announced but it is expected to be sometime in 2007.

Magritte/Dali inspired adds

German agency DDB looked to the art world, specifically to acclaimed surrealists Magritte and Dali, as the inspiration for the adds for the new Volkswagen Polo Blue Motion.
The campaign slogan: "Absurdly low consumption".

"Bobbugatti"

When I use to work for Apple, I was lucky enough to meet some very creative people and this is how I met Petersen Thomas. Petersen is an amazing abstract painter having his art in galleries all over the U.S. Last winter, when Petersen and I were in a show together, we decided to do a barter with each other. He wanted me to shoot some Tiny Planets of his parents farm, and in return he would paint what ever I wanted. My decision was quick, I wanted him to paint an abstract Bugatti. Painting images of cars is out of his realm of subjects, so I thought this would be perfect. Yesterday I met up with him and we headed to his parents house and I shot 8 Tiny Planets (I'll post in a few days) and he gave me the finished painting of the "Bobbugatti" which he was very proud of the name. The colors in this painting are amazin and he captured exactly what I wanted. This is my 3rd painting from Petersen having gotten the others on trade for creating his website and trading some photography.

Now the only problem is finding a place for the Dali.

Where the hell have I been?

Sorry for being MIA. I spent a few days cleaning out unwanted files on both computers getting them ready for the new OS. Worked on getting 3 of my tiny planets printed and framed for a gallery showing I'm going to be in Dec. 1st. And I've been watching a lot of TV lately, so nothing new has happened up until now.

I'm home visiting my parents again. It's been working out great at work, once a month I get a 3 day weekend so I've decided to spend them with my parents. Yesterday was great. We all went up to Cleveland for the day. Dad and I took some pictures of the city while mom shopped at tower city.

The lighting was crap, that's why the tiny planet looks so bad

We ate at the HardRock (which I hadn't eaten there since we went to see the Rolling Stones back when I was in college). We went to the Cleveland Museum of Art where I had no clue that they were going to have one of my favorite Salvador Dali's on display

"The Dream."

After the museum we went to another mall so my dad could get a firewire cable from Apple and have dessert at Cheesecake Factory.

Also, I've gotten a little digital camera, Flip Video, so I'll be posting vids for you to enjoy.
