Abandoned Weekend

One of my friends recently got into HDR photography so over the weekend we went to a few abandoned places throughout Cleveland including a hospital, factory & an apartment building. I've been doing HDR style of photography for years and I must be starting to get too picky with it because I only ended up taking like 40 shots during our adventure.

Abandoned Cleveland Trip

On Memorial Day, Jessie and I headed to Cleveland after we found some amazing shots on Flickr of abandoned buildings. We had planned on visiting 3-4 locations, but only ended up doing two. The first place we visited was in the worst part of town and the whole time I kept hoping we wouldn't get shot/robbed. The factory is Cleveland Stove Co. which ended up being kind of lame. It had the same old pealing paint and crap covered floors as all the other abandoned buildings that are out there. We stayed for about an hour then headed to an abandoned church a few miles away. The church was worth the trip having ceilings with great preserved artwork. Both places were super easy to get into by just going right through the front door. Be sure to check out my Flickr page for more images.

Weekend photos...

Friday night we ended up parking in an awesome parking deck when we went out to dinner. When we came out of the restaurant, there were no cars in the deck so it was a perfect photo op. The first 3 images are from the deck, shot in HDR. The other car photos were shot at the Columbus Auto Show which I felt was a HUGE disappointment. Only a few concept cars were there and that was my main reason for going. The reset of the images are of around Columbus.

Some abandoned buildings

Jessie and I took a trip to the Ridges in Athens last Sunday. We were able to get into the old TB ward with very little effort. The places is creepy as hell and I doubt I'll ever go back. There was a lot of activity outside with people driving up to the building. When Jessie and I left, a cop was driving up the road towards the ward. After that we found an old burned up school that was very easy to get into and then some rusted trains. Jessie and I are now paranoid that we either got: TB, asbestos or black mold. Next time we're wearing face masks.

Shawshank Prison 14 years later

Jessie and I went on a little adventure Sunday to Mansfield Ohio where the movie Shawshank Redemption was filmed. It was actually shot at Ohio State Reformatory which holds tours every Sunday. It was well worth the $8. It's very interesting to see how the same rooms that were in the movie 14 years ago look like today.
