Crop Circles

I watched some episode on the travel channel today about crop circles. There were some very cool designs and since I had nothing to do today, (except watch Six Feet Under on DVD) I decided to recreate some of them in Illustrator. More to come.

Sick day

I did my first ever sick day today. I feel like shit, I have a sour throat, and my head is throbbing. Plus it's raining out and such a crappy day so that doesn't help matters much. Blah.

EVERYONE should have to retake their driver licenses exam every 5 years. Not just the written part but the part where you drive around with a state highway patrol guy in the car. The test should consist of at least 45min of freeway driving in rush hour and you MUST be able to deminstrate that you know what the words MERGE & YIELD mean and be able to exicute it several times. And you should instantly fail if you have all kinds of shit hanging from your rearview mirror or have any kind of bumper sticker supporting Bush.

Stuff

I was lucky to have a 3 day weekend . . . which was spent doing practically nothing. I reorganized my computer, started watching Six Feet Under on DVD and checked out some crazy websites. It was just the relaxation I needed.

Inexpensive ways to add style to a room

Go to Target and buy a few large poster frames (24" x 36"). Buy some amazing prints from allposters.com. Having some vintage style posters framed is more sophisticated and less dorm-room like. Allposters has tons of great prints. Here are a few I just picked up for my media room.

What I use

A lot of people have been asking what kind of camera do I use. I have several, but I mostly use my Canon Rebel EOS 300D. I bought it 2 years ago for $800 and I use the lens it came with. It's 6.3mpxl with 180dpi output. Today you can get the same camera for around $200-300.

My other camera is a point-n-shoot, which is a Canon SD500. I have this one with me all the time. The quality is great for web or staying with a digital format. Print quality from the Rebel is amazing, the point-n-shoot is decent for average users.

I also use Canon printers & scanners. I have the Canon i9900 that is large format (13" x 19") that does amazing quality. I use Aperture to organize all my images and PSD files. For those of you that don't use a Mac, this is what Aperture looks like:

Aperture preserve all the layers and adjustments that are done in Photoshop as well. I also use a tripod (a real tripod, not one of those pocket jobs) for lots of my shots. I shoot a lot of my images in HDR (that's the surreal effect most of my images have). If you plan on trying your own HDR shots, you MUST use a tripod. The HDRs are created by joining 3 exposures of the same image. One being way over exposed, one way under exposed and one that the camera says is right on. Using a program called Photomatix that will merge the exposures for me. I then take the rendered image to Photoshop where I enhance color and detail.

I by no means consider myself a professional photographer. Buying a 10K camera with all the bells and whistles doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to use it. Get to know your camera and buy the manual for it at a bookstore (the one that comes with cameras sucks). Hope this helps. Feel free to email me on any questions.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

Last-night Jer and I went to see "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning." It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Not because the plot was dull but from all the gore . . . OMG the blood and guts, it was very disturbed. A lot of people were leaving the movie halfway through. At one point I seriously thought I was going to throw up. I wish they left more to the imagination and cut away (no pun intended) when leatherface was about to butcher someone.

(I really love the movie poster tho, the detail with the aged look is awesome)

From what I saw of it (because I had my eyes closed most of the movie) it looked very predictable.

Day of nothing

My day was fun filled with my TV. It's been several years since I spent all day watching TV. For my viewing pleasure:

Maury Povich (I have no clue why I watched it)
Mad TV
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Top Chef (for two hours)
E! True hollywood story: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (currently watching)

Going to see "The Departed" tonight

Basement almost complete.

The day before I left for California our furniture for the basement arrived. Since our basement is so long, we're going to have to buy a few more things to balance it out. Here's what we have so far.

I'm back

I'm finally back from CA. I had a great time and learned a ton. I took about 2000 pictures, however, I HATE a lot of them because it was so hazy there and the sky is white in a lot of the images.

*sigh*

So here are some of the pics that came out half way decent.
