Semi productive weekend

This weekend, after living in the new place for 3 months, I finally got around to wiring the basement for surround sound. I've been putting it off because I get really into the whole wire tying all the excess cables up and making sure that everything is hidden and it's just a pain in the ass. Jer and I ordered furniture that will arrive the middle of September, so I figured now was as good a time as any to get everything ready.

I'm testing out the surround as I sit here and type (on my temporary inflatable chair from Target). I got Fight Club a playn and the sound is amazin. The acoustics in the basement are so much better then my last place where the sound bounced off the odd angles of the walls making it very disorienting.

New phone

I'm super big on electronics/gadagets/shiny things. Surprisingly tho, I could care less about what kind of cell phone I have...that is, until now.

Jer and I are on a cell phone plan together. He has always been up-to-date on the latest cool little phone, I on the other hand just got the freebe and really dont't care what it looks like. Having a free phone has one major down side, THEY SUCK. The phone dies all the time. Drops calls. Takes forever to dial.

Last night I had it. I complained enough to Jer that he took me to the Sprint store to get what ever one I wanted. All I really cared about was having a phone without the stupid antenna and I wanted bluetooth since my laptop has it and I wanted to sync all my shit.

(I knew this was the phone for me because my birthday is the date in all the ads)

I...actually, WE, got the new Samsung A640. Jer pouts when he can't have the same toys as me so we had to trade in his year old phone for a new one. So far the phone itself is awesome. I can't get the bluetooth to sync with my laptop because the phone is too new and there isn't a syncing program that supports it yet.... unless anyone out there knows a good syncing program for mac (besides isync, cuz it dont work).

Louie is kung fu

I'm scared for Jer. He's off today and he's going to be home alone with 'lil Louie. Louie just learned kung fu and I just know Jer will be dead by the time I get home. It's hard having a kung fu master living in the house, especially when the kung fu master is a dog. Louie did a judo chop on a house guest the other day and now their in intensive care at St. Elizabeths.

er....todays going to be a silly day, I can just feel it in my loins.

where is my mind

The past few nights I've been having very specific dreams. Last night I dreamt I was up in Cleveland taking pictures of buildings. I got pissed in my dream because there was too much blur in one of the pictures and I even remember the shutter speed that I was experimenting with.

The night before I dreamt that I was being chased by one of my friends (who was an FBI agent) and I ran in to an abandoned factory. The inside was very brightly colored with a lot of glowing orange lights. The outside was very art deco with lots of metal and chrome. The surrounding structures were just skeletons of buildings. There were a lot of rusty steal beams jutting out everywhere and there were homeless people living up in the very tops of the abandoned construction.

Last week I dreamt I was living in a crappy apartment right on the beach in the middle of paradise. The apartment was 400sf and had white concrete block walls with turquoise trim. The floors were all rotted from the rain that poured in from all the huge holes in the roof.

I also had a recent dream that I was in yet another abandoned factory this time one that use to deal with propane. Again people were chasing me and when they ended up catching me, they pinned me down and injected the left over propane into my blood stream with these huge syringes that were about a foot long.

I have no clue what any of these dreams mean. I do know I'm super stressed out with work and I need a vacation.

I bought a new scanner the other day to get all my negatives digital. I did a practice scan on some old collage I did for one of my art classes.

Back home

I just got home from visiting the parents. I'm so aggravated. the drive home was going so good then I ran into major traffic. It was backed up for an hour on the interstate from an accident then once it finally started moving, all the lanes merged into one because of construction and people don't know how to drive and it was just a mess. AAAHHHH!!!!! A 2.5 hour drive turned into 4 hours and I'm hungry and cranky. Jer's taking me to the Outback so my day should start getting better (after a few Long Islands).

*sign* anyway, here are some pics from this weekend. I went to a car crusin with the parents and I got to ride in the rumble seat.

Home for the weekend

I'm home visiting my parents this weekend. It's so relaxing being here. I spent all day on the front porch while my father welded a trailer together in the drive way. Here's what I've been working on all afternoon:

A point-of-view shot with 57 images composited together. I started loosing interest after two hours so that's why it's not perfect.

Worldwide Propagana

I use to go up to Cleveland a lot to take pictures and I would always see this funny looking face sticker on old buildings and decrepit little areas throughout the city. I never thought much of it until I seen the same face when I was on vacation. I was curious as to what the face meant. I did some research and found some very interesting information that changed the way I view my surroundings:

OBEY

"The Obey campaign can be explained as an experiment in Phenomenology. The first aim of Phenomenology is to reawaken a sense of wonder about one's environment. The Obey campaign attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the campaign and their relationship with their surroundings. Because people are not used to seeing advertisements or propaganda for which the motive is not obvious, frequent and novel encounters with Obey propaganda provoke, thought and possible frustration, never the less revitalizing the viewers perception and attention to detail. To catalyze a thoughtful dialogue, deconstructing the process of image absorption is the ultimate goal. All in the name of fun and observation. The medium is the message."
